A Thanksgiving to Remember

On November 25, 2002, the Miami-Dade Justice Association (Miami-Dade Justice Association) KIDS program brought Thanksgiving to the children of the Jackson Memorial Hospital pediatric oncology unit. Through the generous support of Miami-Dade Justice Association members and friends, the gifts provided to the children ranged from teething rings to teddy bears and everything in between. There were approximately 25 children in the unit, which has the capacity for 30. Their ages ranged from infant to seventeen. Miami-Dade Justice Association members, clad in pilgrim regalia, went room-to-room delivering toys to the children together with Thanksgiving theme cup cakes and juices. In addition to providing each child toys to help occupy their time and ease their stay, Miami-Dade Justice Association donated puzzles, books, games, coloring books, crayons, dolls, and more for the unit activity room. These additional items will be awarded to the children in recognition of their milestones in treatment, for instance, when celebrating the last day of chemotherapy, being brave during a procedure, or going home. In addition, items donated to the activity center will be given to newly admitted children.
